FKA Twigs has never been one to make a quiet entrance. The British singer, dancer and all-round creative force sent the internet into a spin today after posting a photo of herself suspended on a pole in a bikini, with a prominent baby bump.
For a moment, fans wondered: was Twigs expecting? Not quite. The “bump” turned out to be prosthetic, part of a characteristically surreal announcement for her upcoming album, Afterglow.

The reveal began at the Lowlands Music Festival in the Netherlands on August 16. Mid-performance, she told the audience: “It’s true. I am pregnant. I am full and abundant and ready to give birth. Her name is Afterglow, and my labour shall commence next month.” Fans were quick to catch on that this wasn’t a conventional announcement, but a metaphor in motion — a way of signalling the arrival of new work from one of music’s most unpredictable forces.
The conversation only picked up after she posted the image to Instagram, though most fans were quick to catch on to Twigs’ creative stunt.
“We giving birth yall,” one fan joked in the comments, while another wrote: “Afterglow having too many aunties, uncles and theyties.”
For those still confused, her longtime collaborator and photographer Siniša later shared behind-the-scenes images showing Twigs in the same look, minus the prosthetic belly.

This isn’t the first time she’s played with the imagery of pregnancy. In her 2015 video Glass & Patrón, she performed with a prosthetic bump before “giving birth” to a troupe of dancers. For Twigs, performance has always extended beyond the stage or the record. Her work often blurs the line between personal narrative, physical expression, and myth-making.
Afterglow, due for release next month, is her first full-length since Eusexua, the experimental LP she unveiled in January. In July, she released the single Perfectly, which she described on Instagram as “the oesophagus” to whatever lies “in the belly of the beast.” If Eusexua pushed boundaries, Afterglow looks set to stretch them even further.

Twigs has long been as enigmatic in her personal life as she is bold in her art. She has been linked to photographer Jordan Hemingway since 2023 and was previously engaged to actor Robert Pattinson, though she tends to keep her relationships private.
Right now, her focus seems clear: on creating work that lives as much in metaphor as in music. With Afterglow, she has once again turned an album rollout into a story of its own. And if this baby is hers to deliver, her audience is more than ready to welcome it into the world.
