Break out the putter and brace for comedy chaos because Happy Gilmore 2 officially hits Netflix in Australia tonight.
Yes, the long-driving hero, played by Adam Sandler, is finally returning to the green in a sequel nearly 30 years in the making. And the timing couldn’t be better: between the current noughties remake revival (Freakier Friday, Devil Wears Prada 2 and Princess Diaries 3) and Gen Z’s rediscovery of the genre that dominated our formative Millennial years – ‘slacker cinema – Happy’s comeback is surely just par for the course.

The film drops at exactly 5:00pm AEST on Friday, July 25, as part of Netflix’s global release strategy.
As always, new Netflix films are released simultaneously worldwide, but Australian viewers will still need to wait until the evening due to time zone differences.

What Is Happy Gilmore 2 About?
Per Netflix, the sequel sees Happy forced out of retirement and back into competition for one final swing.
Set in the present day, the film follows Happy return to the professional circuit in the hopes of raising enough money to send his daughter Vienna (played by Sandler’s real-life daughter, Sunny) to ballet school.
In the March 2025 teaser trailer, we find out that Sandler’s character hasn’t “swung a club in years” and that making a come back might be harder than he first thought.
“Remember the happy place I went to? You go to yours,” he tells his daughter in the third teaser released at Netflix’s Tudum event.
Who Is Cast In Happy Gilmore 2?
Reprising his titular role as Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler is of course on board. Joining him will be fellow original cast members, Julie Bowen (Modern Family) as Virginia – Happy’s now-wife, and Ben Stiller as nursing home attendant, Hal.
Playing alongside the leads will be musician and actor, Bad Bunny, as Gilmore’s caddy, as well as SNL‘s Marcello Hernandez, and Sunny Sandler as Vienna Gilmore.
But aside from the stellar main cast, there’s a host of cameos to look out for – namely one hotly anticipated arrival from NFL star, Travis Kelce.
“The whole thing was to get to hang out with Travis. That’s why we put it together,” Sandler said of the movie on an August 2024 episode of Kelce’s New Heights podcast.
“We were talking about you playing my son while we were writing it, literally, like, six months ago,” Sandler added. “We were like, imagine if Travis was my first baby, how funny that would be. Just a badass.”
