Why Percy Hynes White’s Character Xavier Didn’t Return For ‘Wednesday’ Season 2

“A weird redirect"

As we return to Nevermore Academy for season two of deliciously dark series, Wednesday, there’s one student noticeably absent from the roll call (cast list): Percy Hynes White.

White played brooding psychic Xavier Thorpe, whose abilities brought his artworks to fruition, in season one. Throughout the first season Xavier toes the line between a potential romantic love interest to Wednesday and the lead suspect in a string of grisly attacks at the school.

As fans may recall, Xavier’s psychic drawings led Wednesday to believe he was the Hyde attacking Nevermore’s cohort, but by the finale we learn he was simply a red herring.

When the true Hyde was revealed, Xavier offered a gesture of friendship to Wednesday to repair their relationship – a phone to keep in touch over the summer. It appeared we would see more of Xavier in season two of the show, but that wouldn’t be the case.

Why Isn’t Xavier In Wednesday Season 2?

As details of Wednesday season two were slowly revealed in the lead up to its return it became clear that Percy Hynes White, aka Xavier, would not return.

The 23-year-old’s fate on the show was already speculated over following accusations of assault by a young woman in January 2023.

These anonymous and unverified claims began circulating on Twitter (now X), with users sharing stories that allegedly took place during his teenage years in his hometown of St. John’s, Newfoundland.

In June of 2023, Hynes White publicly denied the allegations in an Instagram story, calling them “a campaign of misinformation.”

He went on to add: “’The rumors are false. I can’t accept the portrayal of me as someone bigoted, or criminally negligent of people’s safety. These are the kind of baseless, harmful claims that can create mistrust toward victims.”

Netflix has not commented publicly on the reason for his exclusion in season two.

Are They Replacing Xavier On Wednesday?

Hynes White’s character Xavier is not listed to appear in season two of the show, nor will his character be replaced.

Taking to social media in May 2024, Hynes White confirmed he would not return, writing: “’I had so much fun working on this show. I can’t wait to watch season 2 🙂 Much love.”

On Xavier’s absence in the new season, Ortega told Vanity Fair that his disappearance from Nevermore was “a weird redirect, but we’re introducing so many different characters that I think it kind of will get lost.”

Where Is Xavier In Wednesday Season 2?

It didn’t take long for showrunners to explain Xavier’s absence from Nevermore in Wednesday’s second season: the reason for his non-return put down to him transferring to a boarding school following last season’s false accusation he was the Hyde.

In episode one, we also see his storyline tied up in a (somewhat) neat bow as Enid reveals a gift arrived from the ex-Nevermore student.

“I tried texting, but I guess you lost the phone I gave you,” he writes in a note attached to a creepy painting of a red-eyed raven. “Consider this my goodbye gift. The image suddenly flashed in my head. Don’t ask me how I know or what it means, but it’s connected to you, I’m sure. Who’s Wednesday Addams without a mystery to solve, right?”
