Few true crime stories have gripped the world quite like that of Amanda Knox. In 2007, the murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy, set off a media storm that would transform Knox, then an American exchange student, into an international headline.

What followed was what can only be described as a messy trial driven by sensational tabloid portrayals, disputed forensic evidence, and accusations of a botched investigation.

Knox and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were convicted, then acquitted, then retried, in a years-long legal saga that blurred the line between justice and theatre.

The fascination with the case has seen Knox’ story turned into multiple documentaries, and now, a dramatised TV series from Hulu: The Twisted Tale Of Amanda Knox.

Is The Twisted Tale Of Amanda Knox Based On The True Story?

Hulu’s new drama series is inspired by the true-life story and trial of Amanda Knox in the murder of her former roommate, Meredith Kercher.

Grace Van Patten, best known for her role in Hulu’s Tell Me Lies, portrays Knox in the limited series as it explores her wrongful conviction and “16-year odyssey to set herself free”.

The actress, who appears to don blue contact lenses as part of her transformation for the role previously revealed to People that portraying Knox was one of the most nerve-wracking roles of her career.

“I had never played a real existing human in the world, so that was very new for me. And the main thing for me was what involvement Amanda was going to have in it.”

Now a mother of two, Knox played a pivotal part in the series coming together, taking on an executive producer role.

“How willing she was to talk to me and trust me, it felt very beautiful and emotional because of how people have created this narrative of her whole life,” Van Patten said.
