Britney Spears has shocked fans by claiming to have adopted a “beautiful baby girl”.
In a post shared to her Instagram page on July 15, Britney Spears shared a video of her dancing accompanied by a caption that read: “I haven’t worked out in years so I put this little pink one piece on and PLAYED!!! How are you beautiful people this morning??”
As the caption continued, Spears wrote, “I want to let you guys know I adopted a beautiful baby girl!!! Her name is Lennon London Spears!!!”
The statements were interspersed with some choice emojis – namely the winking face and rolling eyes laughing emoji – which should have been indicator enough that the sentiment wasn’t all it seemed.
Regardless, the fandom exploded into a mix of elation and mock-concern for the singer, who is already mum to sons Sean, 20 and Jayden, 18 – whom she shares with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.
Contrary to what you may have read about whether Britney spears has indeed adopted a baby girl, it’s quite clear from the post that she was simply enjoying a bit of tongue-in-cheek humour.
Later in the post, Spears joked that her imaginary child, Lenon, was wearing “an adorable dress” (more emojis) before adding that she outfit says “I’m new here!!! So please stop talking trash America!!”
Rounding out the caption with a final statement, Spears told fans she had decided to “move to Italy” and as if that wasn’t reason enough to see through the playful post, then we don’t know what is.
Jokes that Britney Spears adopted a baby girl aside, the singer has been focused on spending time with her two sons more frequently after losing custody of them during her well-documented conservatorship.
Spears and her youngest son, Jayden, were seen together as recently as June 15, when the smiling mum took to Instagram to share a picture of the two attending a church service.
Earlier in the year, Spears posted a heartwarming clip of her son playing the piano, with a caption that expressed just how happy she was to be watching her sons grow up.
“Reposting because it’s a far better edit and excuse me crying and breathing hard!” she wrote.
“I was excited!!! Mamas don’t get enough credit at all these days!! I mean just saying !!! I made a person !!! A live breathing person and I made two of them !!! And my boys are so incredible sweet and charming !!! I’m so blessed.”
