Brooke is a proud First Nations woman, so this initiative is close to her heart. Supported by Lancôme as part of the beauty brand’s Write Your Future international initiative, we talk to Brooke, a friend of Lancôme, about her dedication with the Shooting Stars program and how the challenges in her own childhood have shaped both her career and how she lives her life.

About Shooting Stars

Why have you partnered with the Shooting Stars and the Write Your Future program again this year?

Because I’ve personally seen the impact this program is making first-hand. The Shooting Stars program and collaboration isn’t just about ticking a box—it’s about giving young First Nations women real tools to shape their futures. I partnered again [with Lancome] because I believe in the power of representation, storytelling, and safe spaces for growth. And honestly? I wish something like this existed when I was younger.

What is it about the Shooting Stars program that you align with on a professional and personal level?

On a personal level, I align with the mission because I am that girl who needed guidance, connection, and belief. Professionally, everything I do—from youth work to media—is centred around empowering young people, especially Blak women and girls, to take up space, tell their stories, and own their worth. This program does exactly that.

Brooke’s childhood

You had some challenges similar to some of the girls who go through the program. Can you talk a little about that?

Absolutely. I grew up in care. I faced racism, loss, identity confusion—there were times I didn’t feel like I belonged anywhere. I know what it feels like to carry generational trauma while trying to create something better for yourself. I also know what it feels like to be underestimated. But those challenges shaped my strength—and that’s the message I want to pass on: your past doesn’t define your future. You can rewrite your own story.

You spoke to the girls on the trip both collectively and individually, what did you say to them?

I’ll say: You are not here by accident. You are powerful, important, and deeply needed in this world. Don’t shrink to fit in. Don’t wait to be chosen—choose yourself. And remember, success doesn’t mean changing who you are. It means becoming more of who you are, unapologetically.

What the program gives

What do you hope for them once they have gone through the program?

I hope they walk away feeling seen, heard, and ready. Ready to take up space. Ready to back themselves. Ready to lead in their own way—whether that’s in their community, their career, or just in how they treat themselves. I want them to carry the pride of their culture and the confidence to create whatever life they dream of.

Lancôme is a big supporter of the Shooting Stars program. What does this mean to you?

It means everything. When a global brand like Lancôme genuinely backs First Nations girls—not just with words but with resources, presence, and platform—it sends a message: you matter. These girls deserve to be invested in. They deserve beauty, leadership, opportunity, and joy. And this partnership proves that community and corporate can walk hand-in-hand when the intent is real.

What we can all do

What do you want the world to know about the Write Your Future program?

This isn’t a token initiative. It’s transformative. It’s safe. It’s real. Write Your Future gives First Nations girls the tools to dream bigger, speak louder, and lead with pride. These workshops change lives—and in doing so, they change futures, families, and communities.

How can people help Indigenous girls and women, even in small ways?

Listen. Believe us. Pass the mic when it’s not your turn. Support Blak-led programs, businesses, and stories. Advocate for culturally safe spaces in schools, workplaces, and media. And never underestimate the power of simply showing up—as a mentor, an ally, a friend. Small acts of consistency create big waves of change.
