Donald Trump has told reporters that the relationship between he and Jeffrey Epstein dissolved after he discovered that the late sex offender “stole” young women, including Virginia Giuffre, from his Mar-A-Lago country club.

Speaking with press onboard Air Force One, Trump was questioned about his previous comments about his and Epstein’s relationship, amid ongoing scrutiny surrounding the president’s backtrack on releasing his promised “Epstein Files”.

Suggesting he ousted Epstein from his infamous club in 2004 for what a spokesperson for Trump called “being a creep”, the president sought to remove his name from the ongoing narrative, but in attempting to, has inadvertently achieved the opposite.

When asked to elaborate on his claims that Epstein targeted young female Mar-A-Lago staffers, the president confirmed that he’d taken action against the late sex offender “because he did something that was inappropriate” – notably, that “he stole people that worked for me.”

“The workers that were taken from you – were some of the young women?” one reporter asked.

After initially expressing his hesitancy to answer, Trump relied: “The answer is yes, they were. People that worked in the spa.”

Asking the president to specify if Virginia Giuffre was one of the “stolen” persons he referred to, Trump confirmed she was. “I think she worked at the spa,” he said. “I think so, I think that was one of the people, yeah. He stole her. And by the way, she had no complaints about us, as you know. None whatsoever.”

Virginia Giuffre, who died earlier this year, had previously alleged that she was abused by Epstein and Maxwell before being “lent out to powerful men,” including Prince Andrew.

The president’s comments come as lawyers for Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former partner co-conspirator and convicted sex-trafficker, announced they would be seeking clemency for their client in return for agreeing to take part in a Congress-led deposition. Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence, is also requesting the US Supreme Court to overturn her conviction.
